Sonic Universe #50 was the intended fiftieth issue of the Sonic Universe comic series by Archie Comics. It was announced on October 10, 2012 for a planned March 2013 release[1] which ultimately never materialized. It went unreleased due to Sonic Underground being "off limits".[2]

History

In July 2009, on Ian Flynn's own forum, he stated that a finale to Sonic Underground in comic form was an intriguing idea but that it wouldn't see the light of day until 2011 at the earliest.[3] Years later at New York Comic-Con 2012 the issue was announced to be the fiftieth issue of Sonic Universe. However, as time and solicits went by it was clear that the released version of Sonic Universe 50 would serve as a precursor to the Sonic and Mega Man crossover that started in Mega Man 24.

In late 2013, Flynn took part in a "Sonic Lost World "First Play" Charity Marathon" and after its conclusion said on his forums that Sonic Underground was off-limits to Archie and had been so before he even took part in the series, but that he was still working to make it happen.[2] When asked futhur he said that nothing for the issue was specifically written out but that he had lots of notes.[4]

In 2014, Ian penned Lost Hedgehog Tales, a document about concepts and storylines of the comics that had to be scrapped due to the comic's soft reboot in Sonic the Hedgehog 252 due to ongoing lawsuits against the comic. The Sonic Underground epilogue is supposed to be part of this[5] but has yet to surface despite some pages already being released.
