Buton (ブートン[1]) is a variety of Badnik created by Dr. Eggman, encountered by Sonic in the 8-bit versions of Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
Overview
Bouncing pig-bots, Butons leap up and down in position, and directly towards Sonic if he happens to stroll nearby. Butons can be easily dispatched with a Spin Attack. This Badnik can be found only in Gimmick Mt. Zone, often at the top of slopes.
Like other robots in 8-bit Sonic games, no animal friends pop out of Butons when they are destroyed. Whether these Badniks canonically don't contain organic batteries, or the escaping critters simply weren't shown due to programming limitations, is not known.
Buton is very similar to the Ball Hog Badnik found in both the 16-bit and 8-bit versions of the original Sonic the Hedgehog game. However, unlike Ball Hogs, Butons do not drop bombs as an attack.
