Lava Powerhouse, the second level from Sonic Spinball. Like Toxic Caves before it, this level has rock features, albeit with a different hue and design to them. Magma is also another prominent feature of this level. The magma and steam in this level helps to fuel a power generator. A total of three Chaos Emeralds can be found on this level.

Lava Powerhouse is the second level of Sonic Spinball for the Sega Mega Drive, coming after Toxic Caves and before The Machine. As with other stages in this game, Sonic must bounce through the pinball-like level, acquiring Chaos Emeralds which are in turn used to access the boss, the Robo-Boiler. In this stage, there are three Emeralds to find.

Overview

Lava Powerhouse is a geothermal energy plant, fuelling the roboticization factories of the Veg-O-Fortress' higher levels by tapping the magma flowing through the core of Mt. Mobius. Steam-driven pistons and pressure dials abound, in addition to giant bellows crewed by odd blue anthropomorphic kangaroos. Cannons are used to reach higher places and to bust through doors. Hitting the drop targets in the tables will close the drain plugs, saving the player from falling to lower tables or into the lava if they drop into the outlanes.

Located in the center of the level are two steam arenas which will fill up with Cluckbirds when Sonic enters, and by pressing A, B or C, the player can launch him upward and gain enough height to bounce on their heads. This is necessary to do in order to enter the pressure dials above and shoot upwards.

All three of the Chaos Emeralds are located close to each other, but are accessed through different paths. The center Emerald is reached by getting out of the lower steam arena, while the other two require the player to break the plugs blocking the cannons on the higher tables. When inside the shafts leading up to the Emeralds, pressing A, B or C will give Sonic a push upward to the Emeralds.
