The racing video game genre is where the player partakes in a racing competition with any type of land, air, or sea vehicles.
Kart racers are a style of racing game that uses small, open, four-wheeled vehicles called karts and which introduces the ability to pick up items during the race, and use them to boost one's performance or to attack other players and hamper their progress.
There are several racing games within the Sonic franchise, most of them Kart racers. They are main games or mini-games, or even just related to the genre.
