The Special Stages in Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure are a port of Sonic the Hedgehog 2's Special Stages. To access them, the player must reach the end of the first Act of a Zone (and Sky Chase Zone) with at least 50 Rings and jump into the Giant Ring. The type of Special Stage the player is sent to depends on which Zone the player enters from (e.g. entering from Neo South Island Zone takes the player to the first Special Stage).

Gameplay

Sonic runs in a half-pipe collecting Rings during a period. There are a total of three segments to the level. If the player collects enough Rings during the first two segments, a message will appear onscreen saying "Cool" and the level will continue into the next segment. If not enough Rings are collected in any segment, Sonic will stop and a message will appear saying "Not Enough Rings" and the stage will be over. If the player collects enough Rings in the third segment, they will be granted a Chaos Emerald.

In each Special Stage, there is a flower. If the player collects it, they will earn a Continue.
