Fang the Sniper is a boss that is encountered multiple times at the end of each Special Stage in Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble, with the objective of not letting Sonic or Tails take away the Chaos Emeralds that he has stolenMedia:SonicTripleTrouble GG JP manual.pdf[1]. He is the only boss to ever be fought within a Special Stage throughout the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

Strategy

First encounter

The first encounter with Fang technically isn't a boss battle, but a cutscene where Sonic or Tails find Fang resting atop a ledge next to a button. Upon waking up, Fang bounces onto the button as a means of getting rid of the heroes in the same way Knuckles would do at the end of some of the regular Zones. Unfortunately for Fang, this backfires on him, allowing the heroes to take back the blue Chaos Emerald without a fight.

Second encounter

After Sonic/Tails warps to the Emerald room from the second Special Stage, Fang decides to start using some weaponry to stop the heroes, and enters the arena with his trusty airbike, outfitting it with a pogo spring. However, he can't seem to control it very well, as all he does while riding it is bounce back and forth between both ends of the screen, and is vulnerable at all times. Therefore, the player must avoid getting trampled on and continuously use the Spin Attack on Fang.

After sixteen hits, the airbike will be destroyed, forcing Fang to retreat, and allowing the player to claim the red Chaos Emerald.

Third encounter

After Sonic/Tails makes it to the end of the third Special Stage in time, Fang will attempt to stop him in his airbike again. This time, however, he has ditched the pogo spring attachment and is resorting to flying across the room and tackling the heroes with it. Again, he has no other means of defending himself, so the player can jump at him when he swoops down to attack.

Just three hits is all it takes to stop Fang, forcing him to retreat and allowing the player to collect the yellow Chaos Emerald.

Fourth encounter

After Sonic/Tails warps to the Emerald room from the fourth Special Stage, Fang makes another bid at defending his ill-gotten fourth Chaos Emerald with a surprise for Sonic/Tails: a large missile which he detaches from the bottom of his airbike and fires across the room. This missile will be zooming across the screen repeatedly, going from one side to the other while Fang sits on his airbike laughing maniacally. The player must jump over the missile every time it rockets across the screen. They can hit Fang all they want, but it won't do any good to his airbike this time.

After the missile has zoomed across the screen six times, it will suddenly change its course and fly right into the back of Fang's airbike, destroying it once again. After that, the player is free to reclaim the grey Chaos Emerald.

Fifth encounter

Desperate to protect his final Chaos Emerald, Fang confronts Sonic/Tails one last time at the end of the final Special Stage, this time with a drill attachment on the bottom of his airbike. His attack pattern involves waiting at the top of the screen, following the player wherever they go. After following them for a while, Fang will stop and laugh as he revs up the drill, then slams the ground. When this happens, the player must move out of the way to avoid the attack. Like in the previous battle, just hitting Fang with Spin Attacks will do no good to him; the player just has to keep avoiding his attacks.

When Fang's airbike strikes the ground a fourth time, it will suddenly become stuck in the ground, leaving Fang to sit around helplessly. At this point, the player must jump on his head repeatedly to dunk him into the ground and finish him off. A total of seven bounces will bury him completely, allowing the player to retrieve the orange Chaos Emerald. After this, the player just needs to get the final Emerald from Dr. Eggman to get the good ending.
