Sonic Universe was a spin-off Sonic the Hedgehog comic title published by Archie, designed to expand the horizon of the original comics' fictional universe, usually giving the second half of a story belonging to the main issue of that month. It replaced the Sonic X series. It began its run on February 25th, 2009, and was subsequently released monthly by Archie Comics along with its counterpart title until the entire series was cancelled on July 19, 2017.[1]

The objective of the series was to expand upon the Archie-verse continuity and focus on other characters besides Sonic the Hedgehog, including characters such as Shadow the Hedgehog and Knuckles the Echidna, as well as other universe continuities. The series broke its stories down into 4-part story arcs.

Story Arcs

  • The Shadow Saga (#1-4) - Focuses on Shadow the Hedgehog and his missions with the Guardian Units of the Nation.
  • Mobius: 30 Years Later (#5-8) - Continues five years after the coup d'etat in the Mobius: X Years Later storyline.
  • Knuckles: The Return (#9-12) - Focuses on Knuckles and the Chaotix's adventure in combating Dr. Finitevus.

  • Treasure Team Tango (#21-24) - Details the search of the Sol Emeralds by Blaze the Cat with a focus on the female characters of the series.
