Knuckles the Echidna is a series of comic books, produced by Archie Comics from 1997 to 1999, starring Knuckles the Echidna. It frequently features the Chaotix and Julie-Su, with many stories focusing on the echidna culture, specifically their past.
This comic spins-off from the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog series. Originally planned as a second mini-series for Knuckles, fan support led to the mini-series being turned into a full spin-off series of comics. Unlike the Sonic the Hedgehog series, all stories are set up as three-part stories. This kind of aspect would later be implemented in the Sonic Universe comic. In addition, the covers of each three-part story can be combined to create one large panoramic cover.
This series is infamous for introducing numerous characters to the Archie continuity, notably with the reemergence of Echidnapolis and its citizens, along with the Dark Legion.
When this series was discontinued after issue 32, Knuckles stories continued to appear in the main Sonic series, typically as solo-stories. Some plots become full-series stories, such as the Green Knuckles and Enerjak sagas.
