Story
Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Jet are by now the only competitors left in the Grand Prix. As Dr. Eggman speaks to the crowd from his giant telescreens, Amy wishes Sonic good luck, and the racers make their way up the colosseum steps to deposit their Chaos Emeralds on the prize table before embarking on the final track.
Just before the end of the third lap (providing the player is in 1st place), gameplay cuts to a movie cutscene showing Sonic about to beat Jet to the finish line. Wave, however, activates the device she planted on the hedgehog's Blue Star board in Splash Canyon - a miniature bomb, which knocks Sonic off before he can win the race. Jet zooms past and takes first place, not missing an opportunity to mock Sonic as he struggles up from the dirt.
As the green hawk climbs up to the Chaos Emerald podium, the mystic gems activate his Babylonian control cube - thereby bringing Eggman's entire Machiavellian scheme to fruition. In response to the cube's signal, the floating city of Babylon Garden rises up from the dunes to hover over Sand Ruins, much to Jet's amazement. But with the EX World Grand Prix now having served its purpose, Eggman reveals his more familiar side, stealing the control cube and blasting off towards the Garden in his Egg Mobile (with Amy, somewhat unwisely, grabbing on in an effort to stop him). Naturally, Team Sonic and the Babylon Rogues give chase.
Overview
The final course of the EX World Grand Prix, Sand Ruins starts off in a desert colosseum crammed full of cheering fans, before sending the racers tearing across sun-bleached dunes and through ancient temple complexes. Shifting quicksand outside and shifting ruins inside are just some of the hazards within this course. Strangely enough, the crumbling temples feature still-functional giant longbows, which can fire the characters and their Extreme Gear back into the starting colosseum.
