[[Amy Rose]] has been added as a playable character in all four of the main games in the collection. Amy uses the same set of sprites across all four games which are distinct from her non-playable appearance in ''[[Sonic the Hedgehog CD]]'', and is capable of performing most actions shared across the other playable characters including the [[Spin Attack]] and [[Spin Dash]], and can also use a Jumping [[Hammer Attack]] and the [[Hammer Rush]] as signature moves (though like most other character abilities, these moves are not available in ''[[Sonic 3 & Knuckles]]''<nowiki>'</nowiki> Competition mode outside of a cheat). In all games besides ''Sonic CD'', Amy can be accompanied by [[Miles "Tails" Prower|Tails]] (''[[Sonic 1]]'' requiring a cheat), and can even become [[Super Amy]] and [[Hyper Amy]] using the [[Chaos Emeralds]] and [[Super Emeralds]] respectively. Outside of in-game cheats in these titles, Amy cannot be used in Classic Mode or in the original ''[[Blue Spheres]]''. If the former is utilized, she cannot charge her Rush Attack to keep consistency with Classic Mode not having the Drop Dash.

 +
In addition, [[Knuckles the Echidna|Knuckles]] has been made playable in ''[[Sonic the Hedgehog CD]]'' for all modes except Classic Mode. The level design for ''Sonic CD'' has also been altered to add new routes specifically for Knuckles to explore, except in that specific mode. However, Tails may also be able to access these routes using his abilities.

Both Knuckles and Amy are also added to the 3D dioramas in the main menu.

All games feature a mid-game saving feature that allows the player to make a savestate of their current progress and reload it at any time via the pause menu, though only one savestate may be saved for each game at a time. Changing the box art setting in the Options menu to Japanese will change some of the games to their Japanese versions (e.g. ''Sonic Chaos'' becomes ''Sonic & Tails''), though these Japanese versions will save and load separate savestates from the Western versions. The decorative pillarbox borders for Classic Mode can also be applied to these games.
 +
 +
Much like with their inclusions in previous compilations, ''Sonic Drift'', ''Sonic Drift 2'' and ''Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine'' all have support for their multiplayer modes intact, however the versions that support multiplayer are listed as separate entries labelled "(2P)" in the Game Gear menu. Player 1's screen will be on the left, and player 2's screen will be on the right, and player 1 must select the respective 2-player mode option on their screen. Playing in multiplayer will disable the mid-game saving feature and pillarbox borders.
 +
 +
Some of the games (mainly ''Sonic the Hedgehog'' and ''Sonic Labyrinth'') have been edited to remove or heavily tone down strobing effects, much like their previous re-releases for the [[Nintendo 3DS]] [[Virtual Console]].

===Surprise===
 +
[[File:SonicOriginsPlus Switch Surprise.png|thumb|right|200px|Surprise.]]
 +
Surprise, which is accessible via the Mission menu, presents the player with several tasks tied to the ''Plus'' content, and by fulfilling the conditions of these tasks will they reveal pieces of an illustration. The objectives are as follows:
 +
# Play 1 Game Gear title.
 +
# Use Amy's Jumping Hammer Attack or Hammer Rush in ''[[Sonic the Hedgehog (16-bit)|Sonic the Hedgehog]]''.
 +
# Play as Amy and destroy 1 [[Metal Sonic hologram]] in ''[[Sonic the Hedgehog CD|Sonic CD]]''.
 +
# Clear a Stage in ''Sonic the Hedgehog 2'' as Amy and Tails.
 +
# Clear a [[Special Stage (Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles)|Special Stage]] in ''Sonic 3 & Knuckles'' as Amy.
 +
# Clear a boss battle as Amy.
 +
# Save the future and clear that Stage as Knuckles.
 +
# Use Knuckles' [[glide]] ability in ''Sonic CD''.
 +
# Use Knuckles' climbing ability in ''Sonic CD''.
 +
# Play as Amy or Knuckles and destroy the hidden Eggman statue in [[Wacky Workbench]] Zone 1.
 +
 +
 +
If all tasks are completed, the player will be rewarded with 100 Coins and level select codes (named as "cheat codes") for ''Sonic the Hedgehog'', ''Sonic CD'', ''Sonic 2'', and ''Sonic 3 & Knuckles''.

Sonic Origins Plus (ソニックオリジンズ・プラス) is an upgraded re-release of the 2022 compilation Sonic Origins with additional games and content. In addition to being released as paid downloadable content to all digital copies of the original game, this updated version also received a physical release which includes a reversible Sega Mega Drive-themed sleeve and a 20-page art book. All DLC originally for the base game is also included.

However, unlike Sonic Mania Plus which included the base game and DLC together on the disc/game card, the physical release of Sonic Origins Plus contains only the base game on the disc/card - the "Plus" content must be downloaded separately using the download code included.

    Sonic Origins Plus additions

Sonic Origins Plus has all the content of the base game, but also adds additional content featured only in this expansion:

    Extra characters

Amy Rose has been added as a playable character in all four of the main games in the collection. Amy uses the same set of sprites across all four games which are distinct from her non-playable appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog CD, and is capable of performing most actions shared across the other playable characters including the Spin Attack and Spin Dash, and can also use a Jumping Hammer Attack and the Hammer Rush as signature moves (though like most other character abilities, these moves are not available in Sonic 3 & Knuckles' Competition mode outside of a cheat). In all games besides Sonic CD, Amy can be accompanied by Tails (Sonic 1 requiring a cheat), and can even become Super Amy and Hyper Amy using the Chaos Emeralds and Super Emeralds respectively. Outside of in-game cheats in these titles, Amy cannot be used in Classic Mode or in the original Blue Spheres. If the former is utilized, she cannot charge her Rush Attack to keep consistency with Classic Mode not having the Drop Dash.

In addition, Knuckles has been made playable in Sonic the Hedgehog CD for all modes except Classic Mode. The level design for Sonic CD has also been altered to add new routes specifically for Knuckles to explore, except in that specific mode. However, Tails may also be able to access these routes using his abilities.

Both Knuckles and Amy are also added to the 3D dioramas in the main menu.

    Game Gear games

Gameplay of Sonic 2 in Origins Plus.

All 12 Sonic the Hedgehog games originally released for the Sega Game Gear have been added in emulated form. They are all accessible via the Mission menu in the main menu:

All games feature a mid-game saving feature that allows the player to make a savestate of their current progress and reload it at any time via the pause menu, though only one savestate may be saved for each game at a time. Changing the box art setting in the Options menu to Japanese will change some of the games to their Japanese versions (e.g. Sonic Chaos becomes Sonic & Tails), though these Japanese versions will save and load separate savestates from the Western versions. The decorative pillarbox borders for Classic Mode can also be applied to these games.

Much like with their inclusions in previous compilations, Sonic Drift, Sonic Drift 2 and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine all have support for their multiplayer modes intact, however the versions that support multiplayer are listed as separate entries labelled "(2P)" in the Game Gear menu. Player 1's screen will be on the left, and player 2's screen will be on the right, and player 1 must select the respective 2-player mode option on their screen. Playing in multiplayer will disable the mid-game saving feature and pillarbox borders.

Some of the games (mainly Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Labyrinth) have been edited to remove or heavily tone down strobing effects, much like their previous re-releases for the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console.
