The News Zone section of the Dec. 25, 1993, issue of Sonic the Comic features a preview of the then-upcoming Sonic 3. Though the actual text of the article basically says nothing relevant, the preview pictures shown all have Sonic 2-style sprites in them, as well as Sonic running down the slope in Icecap rather than snowboarding down it.
