First appeared: Labyrinth Zone, Sonic 1
Also in:
- Aqua Lake Zone, Sonic 2 (8-bit)
- Aquatic Ruin Zone, Sonic 2 (16-bit)
- Aqua Planet Zone, Sonic Chaos
- Hydrocity Zone, Sonic 3
- Tidal Tempest Zone, Sonic CD
- Dry Lagoon and Aquatic Mine, Sonic Adventure 2
- Ice Mountain, Sonic Advance
- Ocean Base Zone, Sonic Advance 3
- Water Palace, Sonic Rush
- Coral Cave Zone, Sonic Rush Adventure
An interesting note is that the cliché has been virtually dropped with recent games, as falling into water causes the player to lose a life, which prevents underwater play, like in Tropical Jungle (Sonic the Hedgehog (2006 game))
