- Back to: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Simon Wai prototype)/Comparisons.
Wood Zone is another stage removed from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 before release. As it was never discussed in public and there's virtually no trace of it in the final game, its existence came to light when the Simon Wai prototype was released.
Only the very beginning of the zone has been implemented in this prototype. The music played is id 83, otherwise known as the theme for Metropolis Zone. The stage is also devoid of rings and objects.
Act 1
In the Simon Wai prototype, Wood Zone offers roughly ten seconds of gameplay. You start here.
Sonic and Tails enter a tree.
Sonic and Tails fall down a hole, then exit the tree.
And the duo are met with this non-functioning ramp. Time it correctly and you can squeeze through a hole at the top and fall to your death.
With debug mode we can see there's a bit more to the stage. At the top, there are chunks of floating wooden blocks.
There are also conveyor belts that have no effect.
Shortly after the ramp, there is a large open area of nothingness, but at the end, this section. The background stops scrolling properly at this point.
