Flying Battery Zone

Flying Battery Zone is the second zone in Sonic & Knuckles (the eighth zone in Sonic 3 & Knuckles).
This level was originally meant to be between Carnival Night Zone and Icecap Zone in Sonic 3, but it got deleted because there wasn't space for it on the cart. A custom icon has been found in S3, so we can assume it was very near compeltion before it got scrapped.
The level itself is Robotnik's flying skyship. It comes after Mushroom Hill Zone when playing Sonic & Knuckles or Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
This level and Launch Base Zone are the only two zones in S3&K which use the effect of showing and hiding a foreground layer above the inside areas. Flying Battery, however, also changes the palette when changing backgrounds so that the inside is dark and the outside is light.
