Metal Overlord is a transformation of Metal Sonic, fought as the final fight of Sonic Heroes in a two-part boss stage. Part I is called Metal Madness; Part II is Metal Overlord.
At the beginning of Heroes' Last Story, Metal Sonic is revealed as the true antagonist of the game. Calling down a lightning bolt to detonate the command tower of on which he stands, Metal initiates a transformation with parts from the Final Fortress battleship to adopt a huge, dragon-like appearence: Metal Overlord. When he flies off, Sonic grabs the Chaos Emeralds, and explodes into Super Sonic. He then transfers some power to Miles Prower and Knuckles the Echidna, encasing them in spherical barriers that allow them to keep up with the super-charged Sonic. Team Super Sonic then chase after Metal Overlord.
During the battle, Metal Overlord rants about its intention to rule over a robotic empire. As the advice from the other characters confirms, the only attack that can damage the robotic dragon is Team Blast: Supersonic Overdrive, allowing the entire team to home in on Metal Overlord. Five Team Blasts result in the machine's defeat.
Much like his Knuckles' Chaotix transformation, Metal Sonic Kai, Metal Sonic returns to normal after being defeated. The other characters leave the robot in the apparent custody of Shadow and E-123 Omega.
