SSBB Character select screen

- I've been considering replacing the widescreen Wii images I took a while ago with 4:3 versions, but that image you linked is *terrible*. 2560x1920 is upscaled (the textures are blurry), and there's a ton of empty space on the top and bottom in addition to the sides.
- Either way, the best option is to retake a screenshot at 1x (640x480) in Dolphin (which I can't run anymore due to lack of a GL3-capable GPU). I will probably do this when I get a chance. ---GerbilSoft 04:38, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

- You have to configure that through dolphin emulator. It's better to actually upload it here. Also, 4:3 is supposed to have more top and bottom because it's a standard aspect ratio of which is cropped or uncropped from 16:9. Those empty spaces are part of the menu as they are made in model's so that the player doesn't see anything else on the bottom or top. - First off, that "new" screenshot is just one of the previous ones downscaled. There's no point in using it.
- Second, if you actually owned a copy of Smash Bros. Brawl instead of using a pirated copy in Dolphin, you'd know that when the console is set to 4:3, there *isn't* extra space on the top and bottom. Instead, it simply doesn't have extra space on the sides. ---GerbilSoft 05:05, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
- Well, the game was supposed to also use a vert- screen change rather than a hor+ for widescreen and full-screen switching. You may want to use this tutorial on the wikihow website. It's better to use widescreen hack on Dolphin emulator rather than changing it in the general settings to 4:3. Try keeping the ratio on the general settings on 16x9, changing the aspect in the graphics menu to "Force 4:3" and put a check on "widescreen hack" on that box when emulating a 16x9 game in open matte rather than normal.--Brandondorf9999 05:21, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

- And as for the piracy part, I believe those may or may not have malware in them. People use game copying apps to extract the iso from the disc and share it through torrents and such. My computer doesn't supprt wii discs so I have to download the iso that was copied by other people and emulate it and let's just make them use Vert- fov instead of the original game iso because we'd like to see more rather than just less on 4:3. Also, dolphin can emulate games through the disc when inserted into a device which they call it "Boot from DVD".--Brandondorf9999 05:33, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
- First off: No, it is impossible to get infected by "malware" from a Wii disc image. (Unless you're using a really shitty computer, or Windows 8.) Two, you cannot boot a Wii disc in Dolphin, even if you have one of the LG drives that can read them, because those drives don't actually support the Wii disc format. The ripping programs exploit an error handler in the drive's firmware, which makes it possible to read the disc, but it's really slow. And three, we are NOT going to make them use "Vert-" crap because it is simply WRONG. I'm not discussing this any further. ---GerbilSoft 05:37, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
And I forgot to tell you that a weapon which was one of the foes of Donkey Kong Country is Puftup. I found him as an item used to keep racers from getting into the first place of the race. Puftup seems to be a blue pufferfish which that color came from his debut on Donkey Kong Country 2. He's also one of the characters that come from non-sonic games which have made it's first appearance in the Sonic franchise which is owned by SEGA.
I'm not able to create that article just yet, would you upload those images of puftup that is used on the Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed as one of it's weapons? You've been marking some scans as "good", but they only show the front of the box, and as such are still in need of replacement. Also, some were downloaded from the PressVault and aren't actually real scans. - If you're referring to things like the ASRT boxes, I'd think they'd qualify as good box scans, since they're effectively the same thing, though it is only the front of the box so I'm not sure...

- Good cover scans for these consoles should have both sides (and the spine), otherwise they're incomplete. The whole idea of marking things as "good" is to say "this doesn't need replacing" - if they're incomplete, they do need replacing.
- Also a lot of these cardboard box releases were photoshopped together to create more traditional plastic covers too - I've never liked that - sides should really be scanned separately for super duper maximum accuracy. We're here to preserve what's there in real life, someone else (offsite) can adapt this stuff into custom covers or whatever.
- That being said, some of these totally should be marked as good. Sonic Retro tends to inherit ideas from Sega Retro but it's always slow at implementing them -Black Squirrel (talk) 10:30, 21 January 2015 (CST)

Missing SA2 scans
You have a choice
My policy on magazine scans is to upload the magazine in full as a PDF. But this magazine (and a couple of others) needs cropping and cleaning up first, because it the quality sucks. I haven't had the patience to do it myself.
If you want to fix those files you can either upload each relevant page separately (which is not a good idea - they'll be deleted at some point in favour of a PDF), make the PDF yourself (which is not a good idea because server woes) or just delete the empty files. -Black Squirrel (talk) 15:50, 23 February 2016 (CST)

is there any reason we can't block .bin files from being uploaded (i.e. to force ROM hacks to be zipped)? I can't think of any reason why we'd want to upload a bin file, but I figured you'd be more in-tune with this than me.
I'd quite like to block .bmp files too... though this seems so obvious I'm left wondering if there's a reason nobody has fiddled with this stuff in 10+ years.

Sorry I had no idea that game did get released. I always come to Sonic Retro from my sources and not a wiki. And hows come this Arcade game isn't in the Arcade category?
