'''Sonic Maker''' is a work in progress [[PC]] game creation program being made by [[Sonica]]. It's main purpose is to simplify the process of creating a Sonic level. It is designed to be a user-friendly 'point and click' level editor offering common objects, including platforms, rings, boxes, and loops. It’s easy-to-use interface allows users to simply choose and place items in a level grid, and then to see them in action while testing in the runner that accompanies the editor.

The 'Runner' for Sonic Maker version 3, is also being developed in Game Maker by a collaborative partner; This is a much more advanced engine, and can support dynamic changing of the terrain, as it uses shapes. The shape system is also the new collision placement system in the editor. The runner for versions 1 & 2 are based off of the newer Sonic Dash engine.

Sonic Maker currently allows the user to create levels by point and click, save levels, export levels and play levels. The load feature doesn't work, but has been implemented for the next build.

==Future versions==

Future versions of '''Sonic Maker''' will include more features for creating Sonic levels. The next version will include an entirely new interface. A screenshot of the new interface was posted in '''Sonic Maker''''s topic, and now update videos are being uploaded on [http://www.youtube.com/user/SonicaMaker SonicaMaker's YouTube account]. There are now 2 pictures of version 3 editing levels on this page.

Sonic Maker is a fan Sonic the Hedgehog stage creation program for Windows PCs. Developed by Sonic scene member Lapper in 2009[1], it is one of the first Sonic stage creation programs produced entirely by a fan. Designed to be user-friendly with a "point and click" interface for placing common objects such as rings and item boxes, it allows users to easily create and test stages on the fly.

History

The idea for a fangame Sonic stage editor took initial form, at least for me, with the creation of 'Sonic Maker' in 2009. It was inspired by the PlaySega Sonic level creator. I was, unfortunately, unable to give Sonic Level Creator a try, so I gathered what little I knew of programming at the time and took it into my own hands. 'Sonic Maker' included a rudimentary stage editor created in Visual Basic, and used an old GM8 Sonic framework separate from the editor to play stages.

Lapper[2]

Legacy

The in-development fan level creator Sonic Studio (produced by the same developer) serves as Sonic Maker's spiritual successor.

Production credits

Technical information

Sonic Maker's editor is coded in Visual Basic, while it uses Game Maker 8 to play created stages.[2]
