Sonic Jam 6, called Super 1998 Sonic 6 on the original box, is a hack of Super Mario 2 1998 made later in 1998, an unlicensed clone of Super Mario Bros. for the Sega Mega Drive that uses tiles appropriated from Super Mario All-Stars. The game originated from China.
This game is not to be confused with the legitimate Sega Saturn game Sonic Jam, although it does use an almost identical title screen.
Strangely, this game was rated by the ESRA on September 26, 2011. It received a 3+ rating[1].

Gameplay
Like the game it is based on, Sonic Jam 6 is a bootleg port of the Super Mario All-Stars version of the original Super Mario Bros. game. The Mario sprite of Super 1998 Mario 2 was replaced by Sonic the Hedgehog, who is red without a Super Mushroom and blue with one. The title screen was also changed to feature Sonic, as well as the "intermission" screens that display the remaining lives and the "Game Over" screen. Mario's name above the score readout was also changed to Sonic's. Curiously, the large Mario head in the underground bonus areas still remains. Controls are also modified; only the button allows Sonic to jump and shoots fireballs (if Sonic has grabbed a Fire Flower.)
