- 1970 — Shiro Maekawa, former writer for Sonic Team, is born.
- 2006 — The Wii is released in Europe, with Sonic the Hedgehog released as a launch title for the Wii Virtual Console. Sonic Hopping is released for EZweb (BREW 3.1) compatible phones through Sega's Sonic Cafe portal in Japan.
- 2008 — Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (8-bit) is released on the Wii Virtual Console in North America.
- 2009 — Sonic Jump is released for Club Air-Edge compatible phones through Sega's Puyo Puyo! Sega portal in Japan.
- 2010 — Sonic Free Riders Original Soundtrack: Break Free, an album, is released on CD in Japan and digitally in North America, Europe, and Japan. Issue #23 of Sonic Universe and Volume 14 of Sonic the Hedgehog Archives are released in North America.
- 2011 — Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games is released for the Wii in Japan.
- 2020 — Sonic the Hedgehog Volume 7: All or Nothing, the seventh trade paperback of the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series by IDW Publishing, is released in North America.
- 2021 — Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia is published in North America.
