Submarine Eggman is partially implemented. There is no special music and the camera does not lock in place, and on the right hand side, the lava is much taller (curiously preventing the case in the final game, where you can destroy Eggman's machine before it's had a chance to properly attack). It also takes longer for Eggman to re-emerge.
