The Ring Spark Field[1] is one of the signature moves of Metal Sonic throughout the Sonic the Hedgehog series and alternate media.

Overview

When performing this move, Metal Sonic unleashes a radioactive force from within his body to create a powerful electrical field around him. By doing this, Metal Sonic can shock his opponents to cause damage. However, using this move drains so much of Metal Sonic's available energy that it slows him down considerably[2].

The Ring Spark Field is first used during Metal Sonic's first fight against Sonic the Hedgehog on Stardust Speedway - whenever Metal Sonic is in the lead, he will activate the move and coat himself in crackling sparks, strobing red/blue. This slows him down, allowing Sonic to overtake him easily.
