The Blastoid (Called Pon-Pon in the Japanese Manual) is a cannon-like badnik found in both Hydrocity and Flying Battery. The Blastoids found here bare a slight resemblance to the ones found in Sky Base for the 8-bit release of Sonic The Hedgehog.

Hydrocity Blastoids

The Hydrocity version of the badnik sit statically and fire small bullets into the air. They are primarily blue in colour, and fire round, orange bullets into the air 3 at a time. The bullets Blastoids fire can be deflected if the player is wearing a Water Shield. These Blastoids are commonly found on collapsing bridges, or atop of large loops in Hydro City. They can be defeated either by having the player jump on top of them, or by using the Spin Dash technique. However, due to the fact Blastoids fire missiles, precaution must be taken when timing a jump. Once defeated, a small creature will be released. If the defeated Blastoid was situated on a bridge, a small part of the bridge will collapse, allowing the player to continue downwards through the level.

Flying Battery Blastoids

The Blastoids found in Flying Battery differ from the Hydrocity ones in that they are mobile, fire off only one bullet per shot, and are a reddish-orange in colour. However, like their aquatic counterparts, impact from the Spin Dash or having the player jump on the Blastoids will result in them being smashed.
