Tell us about yourself!

Hi-hi! I’m Faye Mata! I am an actress, but I also have a deep passion for most any creative expression, social psychology, and video games. I also love exploring new restaurants, fashion, and technology!

What are you known for?

I have voiced hundreds of characters in video games, anime, western animation, and interactive commercials! I have provided my voice to Pokemon, Netflix, Miraculous Ladybug, Barbie, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Hunter x Hunter, Sailor Moon, Lego Friends, DC Animation, Fire Emblem, Konosuba, and more!

Who is your favorite Sonic character?

I love Rouge the Bat! She’s confident, smart, knows what she wants, appreciates indulgence in life whether she’s by herself or with friends, and she accomplishes her goals in style!

What was your first encounter with Sonic?

I watched my grandpa play games like Sonic, Super Metroid, and Zelda 64 when I was really little. He’s the one that got me into video games and I grew up a huge gamer! I still remember the music from just watching him play. These days, I see a lot of Sonic in Smash Bros at the ‘1v1 me in Smash Bros’ panel I have at conventions I frequent. I might have trauma from the drowning warning music and from Sonic telling me I'm too slow, haha!

Besides this Sonic comic, do you have anything exciting coming up?

I have so many voice over announcements I can’t wait to share! It’s always a humbling honor to work on franchises I grew up with. Maybe by the time this comes out, I'll have already made them. Other than that, I have a 1 month Japan trip with friends and family, and I'll be meeting some clients I’ve worked with only over the internet for the first time while I’m there! I'll be recording from a Japanese studio for the first time, too! I’m so excited! I feel so incredibly honored to work on an art piece for SEGA. Usually I just doodle silly posts for social media, but I gave my all for this one. I wanted to make something without words, so it can be interpreted by the viewer in any language. Thank you, SEGA, and everyone reading this!
