The Weather Annihilator tower in action.

The Weather Annihilator was a weather manipulation device built by Dr. Robotnik. Appearing in issue #26 of Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog comic series, it was capable of inducing cold weather on a regional level. It was ultimately destroyed by Sonic the Hedgehog and the Freedom Fighters.

Overview

Description

A large, spherical device mounted on top of a tower outside of Robotropolis, the Weather Annihilator was built to bring about an extremely cold climate in the surrounding area of Mobius, thus making it easy for Robotnik and Snively to locate the Freedom Fighters by tracking their heat signatures with infrared detectors.

According to Robotnik, he had acquired the knowledge required to build such a device on a two week meteorology course he took at a night school[1].

Demise

After a week of operation, Robotnik and Snively deemed the device a success, not having detected the Freedom Fighters since it was first turned on. Just as Robotnik was ready to turn the device off, the Freedom Fighters launched an attack on it. While the two Overlanders and the SWATbots accompanying them were initially successful at fighting back, Sonic eventually managed to destory the device with a Spin Attack.
