Another of the common clichéd zones. All or most of the level takes place underwater and the use of air bubbles is critical. You'll find plenty of piranha [[badnik]]s as well.

An interesting note is that the cliché has been dropped in most recent 3D games, where falling into water immediatly causes the player to lose a life, preventing underwater play - circa [[Tropical Jungle]] (''[[Sonic the Hedgehog (2006 game)]]'') and [[Adabat]] (''[[Sonic Unleashed]]'').
