Yes if they're referred to in-game as "Special Stages", then that's the preferred name. Worth noting in the article that they're called "Bonus Stages" in the manuals, of course, but in-game text usually takes precedence, especially when they stick the term front and centre of your screen.

But it is a good spot - they're very loose with language in early Sonic manuals, and you do get some surprises ("fleet feet" in Sonic R is still my favourite) -Black Squirrel (talk) 15:06, 12 August 2018 (CDT)

Good points. I forgot about the "no emerald" results screen saying "Special Stage". The "no emerald" results screen in the Saturn version doesn't call it anything, and there's no level select either. So technically, the "Special Stage" name only applies to the Mega Drive/Genesis version whilst the Saturn and PC versions would have "Bonus Stages". Since they're separate pages anyway, we could keep the Mega Drive/Genesis version as "Special Stage" but change the Saturn/PC version to "Bonus Stage"? It would be splitting hairs a bit, but technically more accurate. --Pecky (talk) 18:47, 12 August 2018 (CDT)
