::The "debug mode" term seems to originate from more than just US-based magazines, as a few UK ones have also used the term, the earliest being Mean Machines{{fileref|MeanMachines UK 16.pdf|page=37}}, maybe some other languages? Debug mode → Edit mode

So I want to clarify things here because it is bugging me for a little while now: is the use of the term "debug mode" being phased out on the wiki in favour of the lesser-known term that was used in Sonic Jam?

While I get it's not a very accurate name as actual debugging requires a devkit along with it being a more official term due to its use in Sonic Jam as far back as 1997, and "debug mode" became an official term as well through its adoption by Sonic Mania 20 years later, people in western communities generally only think of it as "debug mode" rather than "edit mode", and in some games there's additional features that aren't just "editing objects into levels" like Sonic 3 & Knuckles' player sprite viewer. It kind of feels like editing pages just to replace "debug mode" terms goes against what was written on this page itself, unless of course that statement is now considered outdated:

It is, however, a far more popular term, and has influenced several other video games with similar in-game editing or monitoring features. For this reason, and its widespread use in English markets, the "debug mode" name is used extensively on this wiki and elsewhere to describe edit mode.

I see it less as "editing levels" and more "editing values".
As far as I'm aware, there are no official sources for "debug mode" (pre-Mania), but there are ones for "edit mode" (e.g. Sonic Jam). That was the reason it was changed, but we didn't do a wiki-wide text replace (possibly because we couldn't at the time(?)). "Debug mode" has always been more popular, but "Wechnia" was more popular than ******** too - doesn't make it right :)
