Much has yet to be implemented in the Special Stages in this prototype. Sonic and Miles run down a tunnel attempting to collect rings, except rings are hard to collect, and the tunnel never ends. Movement is a little more restricted in this prototype, being difficult to walk on the ceiling, and jumps being more "floaty". There are also no sound effects.
The level twists and turns in every direction before returning to a straight bit, with the background failing to center itself like the final game. This repeats on a loop forever.

A completely different colour scheme for the first Special Stage, alongside a different HUD and a different START banner, complete with traffic lights.

There are no instructions to collect rings - it's just implied. Rings appear, but there is no clear indication if you've collected them, other than the ring counter going up.

There are bombs which take rings away, but they're hard to see. Neither the bombs nor rings render on every frame while the level is turning, so they're difficult to keep track of.

There is a time counter. Once it reaches 0, nothing happens.
