*Turquoise Hill Zone

*Turquoise Hill Zone
An extravigantly easy stage, this level features a turtle badnik with a spring on top, and precious little else. The boss is simply a larger version of that same badnik, which you must spindash into to kill.

*Gigapolis Zone

*Gigapolis Zone
Another fairly easy stage, where you fight many familliar enemies. The only challenge comes in the ridged platforms, which often leave spikes underneath. The boss of this level is an oversized caterkiller which tosses its body parts all over. This boss is significantly harder then Turqouise Hill Zone's boss.

*Sleeping Egg Zone

*Sleeping Egg Zone
This is where the game starts to get interesting. THis level is genuinely more challenging then the first two zones, and its boss is no different. The boss appears to be quite simple: A bouncing eggbot that shoots bombs in four directions, but fustration ensues.

*Mecha Green Hill Zone

*Mecha Green Hill Zone
Oh my GOD, what happened here?! Based on the original Green Hill Zone featured in Sonic 1 for Sega Genesis, this level is a corrupt, mechanical environment created entirely by Robotnik. Robotnik's new ground is deadily fragile, leading to the major challenge of this zone. Other then the slanted ground that reappears from Gigapolis zone, this zone is fairly easy. The boss is a simple, repetitive boss that attempts to shoot you from three different directions. The only difficulty is the control required to avoid hitting spikes upon death.

*Aqua Planet Zone

*Aqua Planet Zone
Oh, were you expecting water? This is an easy level, with a fairly complicated boss. Robotnik will use a multi-capable bot to put you out of your misery, and you must foil his different plots in order to defeat him. The emerald in this level in particular is extremely hard

to find, though, unlike much of the rest of the level.

*Electric Egg Zone

*Electric Egg Zone
This level is extremely hard, especially when compared with the remainder of the game. Very frustrating, many parts of this level are based strictly on luck and no more, and it features many elements from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Game Gear). The slanted bridges also make a return here, with spikes lying underneath. The boss of this level is one of the hardest in sonic history. The first part of the boss has Robotnik in the ship you see him taking the red emerald at the beginning of the game, where he'll attempt to blast you away while you hit him TWENTY FOUR TIMES. His next form has robotnik in a flying form, where you have to hit him but one time. The ending...? Pretty stale if you ask me, find out for yourself...

Description

Known in Europe and Japan as Sonic and Tails, one of the better Game Gear games. It was released on November 19, 1993 in Japan, and featured a simotaneous european and north american release on the 23rd of November. Strangely, this title was released in October in Latin America. Not only did this game have great gameplay and some of the best music, this Sonic game dawned the first playable Tails on Game Gear, as well as the first appearence of both Spin Dash and Peel Out on the Gamegear. Also note that this featured two exclusive items: The Rocket Shoes and Pogo springs. This was also the first game to let you control Tails' flight. Sonic Chaos was certianly a revoloutinary game.

Storyline

Robotnik has taken the red chaos emerald, and he's hunting for more. Sonic and Tails must save south island before it is too late.

Gameplay

Characters

You have a choice between Sonic and Tails. Tails is the "easier" story, as he has no special stages and has the ability to fly, rather then peelout. Other then that, there are no differences between the characters.

Emerald Hunting

Unlike the previous two 8-bit Sonics, emeralds were not found in the actual stages. Instead the player would collect 100 rings to enter the special stage, where an emerald would be found. Only Sonic can enter the special stages.

Items

Sonic Chaos features two new items: The Pogo Spring item box and the Rocket Shoes item box. The Rocket Shoes gave Sonic (or Tails) the ability of even more incredible speed and limited flight. Often, this was enough to blaze through the entire stage. The Pogo Spring item box also made a limited appearence here, which were basically springs strapped on to Sonic's (or Tails') shoes, and also lasted a limited time. It gave them an unpresidented jump that let them pass otherwise impossible obstacles. The other items are standard Sonic fare.

Special Stages

One of the two ways to earn emeralds, you get these only when playing as Sonic. Entering the special stages is simple -- collect 100 rings and you will automatically be teleported there. Sonic Chaos is the only Sonic game to feature completely different special stages for each emerald. You collect small and giant rings, worth 1 and 10 rings, respectively.
