Bubble Shield monitors, when hit, will give the player the Bubble Shield, one of the three special-effect shields in Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles.
The Bubble Shield has three useful features:
- The user becomes capable of breathing underwater, thus removing the danger of drowning (this aids in the completion of Sonic 3's Hydrocity Zone)
- Sonic can perform a Bubble Bounce with it, firing him straight down to attack, then launching him high into the air.
- The shield deflects small bullets when they hit it.
The Bubble Shield is removed if the user contacts an enemy or contacts spikes.
