===Level Editor===
+
ESE I has some features that Esrael Sonic Editor II doesn't have, so you may want both versions.
Allows you to easily change the layout of any given level using either 128x128 or 256x256 (S1 only) tiles. You simply click on the tile you want in the left, click the tile to replace, and it replaces it. You can also move objects around. ESEII adds the ability in Sonic 2 to import levels from other Sonic games and hacks.

===Bonus Editor===

For Sonic 1 only, ESE can edit the bonus stages in S1 by changing the layout of the blocks.

===Cheat Editor===

Not functional.

===Pallete Editor===

Changes in-game palletes in the Sonic games. Using this tool you can change the colors of most any level you want.

===Misc.===

This is game specific, and has various options depending on what game you are hacking. Some games do not have Misc. options.

===Level Order===

Allows you to change the order in which the levels are played.

===Playlist Editor===

Allows you to change which song plays in any given level. Note that this does not allow you to modify the music itself, but merely where the music is played.

===Special Stage Editor===

For S3/K, this allows you to change the layouts of the pseudo-3d special stages.

===Level Select Text Editor===

Allows you to change the name of levels in the level select menus. Also allows you to change what level that menu option sends you to.

===Title Card Editor===

Allows you to change the title card text. Not avaliable on Sonic 1.

===IPS Patcher===

Allows you to patch IPS patches on to ROMs to change the ROM in some way.

===Checksum Check===

Verifies that the checksum of any Genesis/Mega Drive ROM is correct. If it is not, you can correct it.

===Hex Editor (ESEII Only)===

This is a simple hex editor.

Feel free to add on to this as much as wanted, after all, this is a wiki.

Esrael Sonic Editor (ESE) is a suite of hacking utilities offered for free by Esrael. There are two versions of this program, ESE (written in Visual Basic) and the superior ESEII (written in Delphi). ESEII adds the ability to import levels from other games in Sonic 2 as well as a few bugfixes and extra features. The program was designed to be in Portuguese but can easily be set to other languages, though some dialogs may still appear in Portuguese.

It features editors for various levels and bonus stages, a data converter for porting stages between games, an IPS patcher, and an SMD<->BIN converter, among other things. However, it's rather buggy, and hasn't been updated in years. The hacking community now has a much better understanding of the way the games work, and new techniques for ROM editing, but they haven't been applied to ESE. Its main advantages over SonED and SonED2 are the more user-friendly interface and integration with several useful tools.

ESE I has some features that Esrael Sonic Editor II doesn't have, so you may want both versions.
