The drain plugs are already opened at the start of the level.
It takes five hits to bust the doors instead of three in this prototype. Additionally, hitting them with enough speed won't display an explosion or "BUSTING DOOR..." on the status bar.
When a door is about to be opened by blasting out of a cannon, "UNLOCKING DOOR" is displayed on the status bar.
Ferrons are known as "Forebots".
The Ferrons that can only be permanently destroyed after completing certain actions will display "NOT YET..." if the conditions have not been met. This message was changed to the more descriptive "BUST DOOR/CORK FIRST..." in the final game.
The status message displayed when the player can jump inside the Robo-Boiler was later changed from "JUMP TO DROP DOWN" to the more helpful "JUMP INSIDE ROBOILER!".
Falling out of the Robo-Boiler's arena will accidentally trigger the "CLUCKS ARE COMING" message when the camera scrolls past the Steam Arena.
In the room where Sonic must swing from a chain to avoid falling into a lava bath, the D-Pad controls are locked until "QUICK, GET OFF..." is displayed on the status bar. The player can still make him jump before the message is displayed, but doing so is a very bad idea.
