Insta-Shield

From Sonic Retro

The name?

Is Insta-Shield really the best name for something that definitely isn't a shield? It's silly to have to refer to it along with the shields to clarify that it isn't actually a shield, especially when this term was totally made up by the old localizers and was fixed with Generations. I'm thinking Twin-Spin Attack, which Generations uses, is a better name than Insta-Shield at the very least. Despatche (talk) 22:18, 3 May 2017 (CDT)

(Just because the name is silly doesn't mean it's wrong)
Insta-shield is a valid name, but you're right in that it's probably not the most common name. However, in Sonic 3&K it is in many ways a "shield" - IIRC with extremely good timing it can deflect projectiles like the others, and it does make Sonic invincible for a bit - I'm not sure these two features were carried through to Sonic Advance 1 and 2 (or Generations?).
Quick manual search:
The term "Spin attack" comes with its own headaches though, as in other games it's used to describe rolling, jumping and spindashing. Might need to cross reference all the other manuals to see if our Spin attack page needs moving.
Fun fact: in Sonic R the speed shoes are called "fleet feet". -Black Squirrel (talk) 15:57, 4 May 2017 (CDT)
