Sonic 1
- Found in Green Hill Zone, this obstacle comprises a horizontal, spiky pole stretching between riverbanks. Large thorns rotate around this pole in a spiral-like fashion, forcing the player to move and jump carefully.

- Found in Angel Island Zone, this spiked pole is very similar to the version found in Sonic 1 - however, it is much shorter, and rotates faster at a more infrequent rate.
