Sonic 1

  • Found in Green Hill Zone, this obstacle comprises a horizontal, spiky pole stretching between riverbanks. Large thorns rotate around this pole in a spiral-like fashion, forcing the player to move and jump carefully.

Sonic 3

  • Found in Angel Island Zone, this spiked pole is very similar to the version found in Sonic 1 - however, it is much shorter, and rotates faster at a more infrequent rate.
  • Can also be found in Marble Garden Zone - this is a much thicker vertical platform, spiked on the sides. It moves on all the axes - some move up and down, some move back and forth, and some do both.
