Sonic Unleashed has gone through several changes over its development process. There are several rejected ideas, levels, and other things that were left on the cutting room floor. The following details several of these things.

According to the Sonic CulT, the game was developed by Sega's development teams from Japan, the United States, and Europe in an attempt to reinvent the franchise for a multi-platform release in November 2008.

Yoshihisa Hashimoto claims that “…The whole development team is aiming to make Sonic Unleashed the best Sonic game ever, and that includes the Genesis-era titles! We hope that even people who haven’t played Sonic games will feel “Wow, Sonic is back!”…”

The music was composed by Tomoya Ohtani. The main theme song, "Endless Possibility", was sung by Bowling For Soup's lead vocalist, Jaret Reddick. The ending theme, "Dear My Friend", is sung by Brent Cash.

Cray Castle

Shortly after the game's release, three files were found on the the disk referring to a stage called Cray Castle. These suggest that at least one stage originally intended for the game was removed.
