Sonic & Knuckles Prototype 0612 for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis was released by drx during the February 23rd, 2008 proto release.
Selecting Special Stage 1 from the level select gives you the faded, non-animated "No Way!" screen. You can't do anything on it. Use FFFFA1:0001 to pass through the NO WAY screen. Add the code before selecting Special Stage 1. It will bring what I think is the first blue spheres stage.
