Sonicretro-round.svg This short article is in need of work. You can help Sonic Retro by adding to it.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Project Mettrix is a fan game led by Stealth for DOS and Windows platforms. The engine itself is written in the C programming language, and is a good approximation of the original Sonic engine.

Project Mettrix also includes a level editor and other tools making the Fan game very editable. Well-written documentation is included with the Fan Game package.

History

(From the Offical Site) This game was under development for some time on The Games Factory under the name "Sonic and the 7 Rings", but after many complications, Ron decided to seek out a programmer to do the engine work instead.

Features

(Form Stealth)

  • 3-layered scrolling, including a multi-speed background.
  • Palette Rotation and Animation.
  • Tile Animation.
  • Screen Border Relocation, as seen in areas such as Green Hill, which can make the level taller, shorter, or boxed in at times, such as in boss battles.
  • Background swapping, one level can have both an "inside" and "outside" background.
  • Sonic style movement for each of the three characters (Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles), including their slopes, curves, loops, and their special moves.

Other features to-date include:

  • 4 decently-sized levels made playable for the current demo
  • One zone that uses a SA-Like radar system for finding the enemy
  • Original level and badnik art
  • Original SoundTrack
  • Built-in Level Editor for creating your own levels
  • Save-Game feature and interactive "options level"
  • The semi-complete 3D special stage
  • A whole lot more.

Level Order

The game starts in Wood Zone, as an options zone to chose your characters, save data, and Levels. Afterwards, the levels go as following:

Levels Sonic Tails Knuckles
Level 1 Shining Island Zone Shining Island Zone Guardian Castle Zone
Level 2 Aqua Lung Zone Aqua Lung Zone Dust Hill Zone
Level 3 Nightlight Heights Zone Nightlight Heights Zone Bronze Lake Zone
Level 4 Neo Sky Chase Zone Neo Sky Chase Zone  ???

Level 6 Hidden Palace Zone Hidden Palace Zone  ???
Level 7 Timeless City Zone Timeless City Zone  ???

There are also hidden test levels within the game, accesible by the editor.
