The Fire Somersault was first introduced in Sonic Adventure 2. It is an upgrade to Sonic and Shadow's Somersault, usable when the character obtains the Flame Ring. While the normal Somersault can only break wooden crates, the Fire Somersault can break steel crates as well. Black metal crates are still unbreakable, however.
