The only references ever made to Dust Hill Zone could be found in the dumped prototype ROM and some magazines, as seen above. It seems to be the early name for [[Mystic Cave Zone]] in Sonic 2, according to these.

It's often mistaken for the unreleased [[desert level]] that can be seen in some early concept art. This is because of the rumors some unknown Sonic fan started spreading in the late 90's, but since there was never any proof behind that statement and [[Brenda Ross]] admitted she had never used the name Dust Hill for her desert, it's now obvious that there's no connections at all between both levels.
