Phantom Ruby is a mysterious stone with a great power source that appears in Sonic Mania. According to the game's own manual, the stone was found by Dr. Eggman on Angel Island due to an emanation of interdimensional power in the atmosphere. The scientist soon noticed that the gem had unexplainable power and sent its elite of robots known as Hard-Boiled Heavies to take it.
Throughout the game, it is noted that the gemstone has the power not only to cross dimensions, but also to return to certain moments in space-time, similar to the Time Stones.
During the true final fight of the game, against the Egg Reverie, it is noticed that the gem causes anomalies both in space, as it is possible to notice in the bottom of the final fight characterized by being something psychedelic, as also in the time, notable by the constant variation of the time at HUD. Finishing the fight against Dr. Eggman and Heavy King, at the good ending of the game, the Phantom Ruby opens a portal that takes Sonic to an unknown dimension.
