Sonic.EXE: The Game, sometimes known simply as Sonic.EXE[2], is a Sonic the Hedgehog hack developed by MY5TCrimson[1] and first released on August 13, 2012.[2] Based on the well-known creepypasta Sonic.exe, it attempts to recreate the infamous story in playable form, and played an important role in standardizing the visuals associated with the creepypasta.

Gameplay

History

Development

The game took about 3 days to whip up, and is not a full representation of my programming ability - it was simply something I made for a laugh. I never expected it to come this far since the original release. Bear that in mind.

Release

First released on August 13, 2012[2], Sonic.EXE: The Game was one of the very first Sonic.exe fangames released to the public.

Legacy

The visual of Sonic the Hedgehog standing idly at the start of Green Hill Zone was quickly codified by the Sonic scene as the de-facto setting for future allusions to Sonic.exe. Even Sega of America's Social Team has paid reference to the creepypasta. On January 13, 2017 (Friday the 13th, a day considered unlucky in Western superstition), the official Sonic Twitter posted a warning to "watch out for black cats" alongside a custom animation featuring the demonic Sonic character jumping on and dying to an Eggman monitor[3] - an image inspired by Sonic.EXE: The Game.
