RedHotSonic2 is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 by redhotsonic. It was the first hack created by redhotsonic.
Information
Started in early 2004, this hack features Red Hot Sonic and another fan-character Jet Pack Tails. Several versions were released (0.50, .60, .70, .80 and then finally 0.90). RHS2 started off bad (especially with the palettes) but become more developed over time.
Development
Basically, this hack didn't use much ASM hacks, it featured palette changes, different level layouts, and some new art. It did feature a brand new object that was totally original and hasn't been featured in a hack before. This was called the walk-through-wall monitor. When it's destroyed the character is given the power to walk through the wall. This only appeared in in one level, HPZ.
All the level names are changed, some of them are non-sensical. For example, Hidden Palace Zone was renamed Crystalize, even though there was no crystals in that level.
Lost Interest
The creator, Redhotsonic began to lose interest in hacking, especially due events in his life (new job and etc), so Red Hot Sonic 2 was never finished and development ended with version 0.90. He then announced that his desire to let someone continue it if they so desired. A few volunteers expressed their interest and ultimately jman2050 was chosen. Ever since then, no more has been heard about this hack.
