Google monitors were originally intended to help Sonic by supplying him with a pair of googles, most likely for underwater use. However, when Sonic put them on for the first time, he quickly realized and yelled "THE GOOGLES, THEY DO NOTHING" and Sonic Team scrapped that feature. The monitor is still present in the ROM data, but they do nothing.
