(JTLYK, both OED and Webster's say n. pl. in·dex·es or in·di·ces (-d-sz) as acceptable plural forms. Leaving it for now, however.)

A word is two bytes.

A common use for a word is an integer representing either values from 0 to 65535 or from -32768 to 32767.

Words are also used in offset indices.
