Sonic 1
Giant Rings appear at the end of acts 1 & 2 in Sonic 1 if you have collected 50 or more rings. They teleport you to special stages.
Sonic 3 and Knuckles
Another large ring that appears in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles. It teleports you to a special stage; or if used while in the S&K zones of Sonic 3 and Knuckles, will transport you to Hidden Palace. If you have already collected all the Chaos Emeralds in the game, the giant ring will give you 50 rings when you collect it, instead of sending you to a special stage.
Sonic Chaos
The oversized rings that appear in the first special stage are worth 10 standard rings each.
