Wisps are extraterrestrial creatures introduced in Sonic Colours. Dr. Eggman captures the Wisps to power his interstellar theme park, and Sonic is tasked with rescuing the diminutive aliens from the mad scientist's clutches. According to information so far, there are at least seven or eight Wisps available in the game. As the player progresses, more Wisps are unlocked, which will then appear in both later and earlier stages.

Color Power

The small, color-coded, floating alien creatures each contain a different ability that Sonic can harness by collecting them. When a Wisp is collected, the gauge on the bottom-left corner of the screen will display which Wisp is currently active. Upon activating a Wisp's color power, the gauge will begin to deplete until the current power is entirely used up.

  • White Wisps give Sonic the Sonic Boost, which was first introduced in Sonic Unleashed. Much like in the previous game, the Sonic Boost will give Sonic and instant (but limited) burst of speed and will automatically attract any nearby rings.
  • Cyan Wisps give Sonic the Cyan Laser ability, which allows him to ricochet off of walls and teleport using the corresponding antennas that appear in the stage.
  • Yellow Wisps give Sonic the Yellow Drill ability, which turns him into a drill. This enables the player to dig through certain surfaces that contain hidden underground rooms, paths, and pipes that can only be entered with proper precision.
  • Orange Wisps give Sonic the Orange Rocket ability, which will turn him into a rocket, sending him flying directly upward. This ability also allows Sonic to reach higher areas of the stage.
  • Pink Wisps give Sonic the Pink Spike Color Power, which gives him longer, pointier spikes that allow him to stick to walls. (Wii only)
  • Green Wisps turn Sonic into a slow-moving hovercraft, allowing him to fly through the air and find hiddem areas normally unaccessible. This ability also allows him to use the Light Dash. (Wii only)
  • Red Wisps turn Sonic into a fireball, similar to the Fire Shield of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. However, unlike the Fire Shield, the Red Wisp can be used move in any direction when in mid-air. (DS only)
