Hacks

Please read Sonic Retro:Hack Policy. Generally, people shouldn't make pages about their own hacks. If the hack is considered important enough, someone else will do it. - Hivebrain (talk) 13:55, 31 August 2015 (CDT)

Sorry, I was mistaken about it being your hack. It still doesn't meet the hack policy though. - Hivebrain (talk) 13:44, 1 September 2015 (CDT)

Sonic & Knuckles Collection Music

Where did you hear that the UK Xplosiv version of S&K Collection has "Genesis-like" music? I purchased a copy and it has the same MIDI music as the US version. (I'm fairly certain the JP version does, too.) ---GerbilSoft (talk) 11:06, 16 January 2018 (CST)

GerbilSoft, EU and UK versions have Genesis-like OST, I mean that. I have a disk with the game. Soniccis96 (talk) 08:36, 17 January 2018 (CST)
Can you prove it? MainMemory (talk) 13:10, 17 January 2018 (CST)
Do you mean Sonic the Screensaver? That came with the big box UK version. - Hivebrain (talk) 17:29, 17 January 2018 (CST)
Are you crazy?! No way jose, guys! Soniccis96 (talk) 05:45, 18 January 2018 (CST)
Hivebrain, as a way, I HAVE a Japanese S3&K PC CD-ROM. I knew that the OST-from-Genesis is only there. Soniccis96 (talk) 04:39, 19 January 2018 (CST)
Prove it. Upload the game files or disc image somewhere. MainMemory (talk) 09:34, 19 January 2018 (CST)
MainMemory, I tried. But i have no choice, because they deleted my torrent, I'll just send you fixed DLL with music, okay? Soniccis96 (talk)
Okay. MainMemory (talk) 11:30, 19 February 2018 (CST)
I've taken a look at the DLL you posted on my talk page for some reason in comparison to the one that came with my copy of the game.
  • The following tracks are replaced with their MD counterparts: CNZ1, CNZ2, ICZ1, ICZ2 FM, LBZ1, LBZ2.
  • The following tracks are still using the PC versions: ICZ2 GM, Sonic 3's credits, Sonic 3's Knuckles theme.
  • All of the code in the DLL file is identical to my version.
  • The timestamps in the DLL files' COFF headers are identical: 10/29/1996 6:44:52 AM

If SEGA had changed the music between versions, they would have done so by replacing the resource files in the source code and rebuilding the DLL. Doing so would result in the DLL's timestamp being different and possibly slight changes to the generated code. This looks more like someone used something like ValleyBell's SKC-MIDI tool to replace the music files in the DLL. This is supported by the fact that they missed the GM version of ICZ2 and if I extract the files from that DLL and import them into my DLL, I get an identical file. MainMemory, I installed this game in PC at once. Remember it well. But soundtracks are not replaced with hacktools, they are looped. The DLL in Japanese version was rebilt. As a way, this is a rare edition I have, so you'll not find an analogue. Maybe I loaded file on MediaFire with a some power loss, huh? Soniccis96 (talk) 14:10, 23 February 2018 (CST)
Our hacking tools are fully capable of looping music. In fact, when I showed the DLL to ValleyBell, the creator of the SKC-MIDI tool, he said:
<ValleyBell> ... interesting

<ValleyBell> If you open the DLL with a hex editor, you immediately notice that 90% of it isn't properly compressed.
<ValleyBell> i.e. it uses the trick that works around the LZSS compression

What you have is very obviously a hacked DLL. There is no way that was used in an official release of the game. MainMemory (talk) 15:35, 23 February 2018 (CST)
MainMemory, as a way, the Japanese version has some resembles and repacks. Maybe I got one? But this is not an evidence to remove the information from page. Soniccis96 (talk) 14:38, 24 February 2018 (CST)

Please provide proof that the JP version has "Genesis-like" music. Your claims that the Xplosiv version has it have already been shot down, and there's zero verifiable evidence that the JP version has it, either. ---GerbilSoft (talk) 09:21, 14 June 2018 (CDT)

Actually, you know what? I just ordered a copy of the JP version of S&KC on eBay. It'll be here in a few weeks, and then I'll verify it myself. ---GerbilSoft (talk) 09:23, 14 June 2018 (CDT)
GerbilSoft, I got a DLL with it, also here's a link to video with changed soundtrack. Maybe the eBay'er repacked the ISO image? Soon I'll make an ISO image from an CD with the game I have. Also, I want to explain: "Genesis-like" music is just an arranged MIDIs. All track inclusive, even IceCap zone (track is not changed, just arranged). Soniccis96 (talk) 09:35, 14 June 2018 (CDT)
I can't watch that video right now, but if I remember correctly, Doomsday Zone's music in S&KC is the same as the MD version, but with MIDI instruments (which depends on the sound card and/or software synth). ---GerbilSoft (talk) 09:40, 14 June 2018 (CDT)
GerbilSoft, in Beta Version it was track by "HIYA!". But in final release it was as in MD. As I said to MainMemory, Japanese version has some repacks and rebuilts. Maybe you got one? Soniccis96 (talk) 09:44, 14 June 2018 (CDT)
GerbilSoft, also, I have a disc with Japanese S3KC and will soon make an ISO with the game. Soniccis96 (talk) 09:48, 14 June 2018 (CDT)
