Spanner, previously known as SOTI, joined the Sonic scene around June 2007. His current positions in the community include being a co-organiser and a judge of the Sonic the Hedgehog Hacking Contest and a member of the Staff of the Sonic Stuff Research Group.

Here on Sonic Retro, he contributes to various discussions, publicises the Hacking Contest, frequently visits the IRC channel, and edits the wiki. From uploading stuff to making templates to doing minor edits, Spanner has made over 2,000 edits to the wiki, although he's barely created pages of his own. Using Tina in the IRC channel #reporting and the Recent Changes page, Spanner looks at edits made and how they can be improved or fixed, before anyone else does anything. Even the smallest things would be quickly done. That is when he's bothered though.

Spanner's hacking efforts usually revolve around importing music to the SMPS format using xm4smps, although that doesn't mean he can't do anything else. He can do some ASM stuff, but usually others end up working with him in order to get something to work.

He is currently working on projects such as the multi-award winning hack Sonic Boom, doing music imports and other stuff, as well as contributions for Sonic 1 Lunacy. He also contributes to other hacks. He is the user responsible for Sonic 2 Dimps Edition, a parody hack aimed at Dimps and their game Sonic the Hedgehog 4, with the hack having received mixed feedback and endless requests to add certain things. In addition, Spanner is also behind the Ben Kalough character portrayed by Skyler, when the latter was looking for a Ken Balough impersonator for a video. On an unrelated note, Spanner shares the same birthday as PACHUKA.
