Oerg866 is a German scener. His main hacking project was
Sonic Retro
Sonic The Hedgehog - Oergomized
, an ASM hack of Sonic 1.

He has been in the community since September 2006 when he first stumbled across Simon Wai's Sonic 2 Beta page after playing around with the Sonic 2 Beta ROM. However, at that time he was an AOL user, so he couldn't register until an administrator gave him permissions to try and pass the test. Three months later he changed his ISP, so that he isn't a so-called "AOL-Faggot".

His first few posts, both in the forums and the IRC, were in his own words "bullcrap". On September 10, 2006, he asked where he could buy a ROM dumper on the IRC, but was given porn links in reply, sparking a
Sonic Retro
small amount of drama on the forums
. He got banned and he left in early-mid 2007. Around July 2007 he came back, passed the test and also became a full member. After a
Sonic Retro
flamewar
with a member called Sith over his discovery of a hidden debug menu in Kega Fusion which turned out to do nothing, he was banned again. Although the ban was initially only for a period of one week, Tweaker decided to turn it into a permanent ban since he considered Oerg to be a "complete asstard". Before the ban, Oerg had
Sonic Retro
posted a translation of a German Sonic 1 prototype article
and contacted the authors, but by the time he received their answer he was already banned and could not post it. Before he came back in December 2007, he had secretly learnt a bit of hacking. There had also been a complete turnaround in his relationship with Nineko, who had previouly hated him - he would later even go on to beta test soniNeko. So he was given the ability to register again when he translated a 6-page long Sonic 3 article originally printed in a German magazine. This article was very interesting, as it featured several things that weren't seen before, most notably a mention of a "Help!" item. Because of this he was given trial membership again. However, he rather unwisely used all 10 posts at the same time and got stuck in Pending Approval. After several discussions with Tweaker, he was able to try the Technical quiz, gaining 10 more posts which he spent well by
Sonic Retro
posting several translations
and a thread about his hack. He became a member again, but one that was seemingly more respected than before.

However, he got insulted numerous times by people who hated him since he first registered, which ultimately made him so angry, upset and sick of it that, on June 3rd 2008, 5:50PM, he announced in the IRC that he was quitting hacking/development and thinking about giving the source code of his hack to others to go on doing something good out of it.

He came back, but that was only for a short amount of time. People gave him comments like "You fail at hacking, your music sucks", etc., so ultimately, he quit hacking once and for all, and made his hack source public, saying "Do whatever you want with it."
