Toxic Pools is the first level of Sonic Spinball for the Sega Game Gear and Sega Master System. As with other stages in this game, Sonic must bounce through the pinball-like level, acquiring Chaos Emeralds which are in turn used to access the boss. In this level, Sonic must find three of the gems.

Overview

After being shot down by Dr. Robotnik in the opening sequence, Sonic arrives in a toxic dump, complete with large pipes and pools of hazardous sewage. Other than the completely different layout this differs from the 16-bit version as the rock features remain purple in hue regardless of where Sonic goes, rather than yellow. The sludge itself is a much darker color and is less noticeable.

To access the secret room in this level, the player must hit the 4 drop targets in the central table at the top half of the stage, then jump through the wall behind the geyser in the bottom left corner of the level. The room contains two Monitors containing a 1-Up and a hint for a cheat code.

Quotes

Blast your way through chambers oozing with nasty green slime. Take a ride on a geyser accelerator. Shoot through tubes to the upper tables. Smash into mechanical worm bumpers. Way cool!
